March 2017 Income

I set a new monthly record this month! My first greater than $1000 dividend month. $1042.60!

I didn’t think I was going to do it. Turns out that I did not see that BBL had significantly increased its dividend (from 0.28 to 0.8 per half-year). I wonder if this is a one-time thing or if this new semi-annual dividend amount will hold?

The March 2017 total of $1042.60 is a 40.7% increase from March 2016 where I received $740.86. From here on out it is looking like the rest of the months will be slightly to significantly higher than the payouts received last year. It is finally looking like I have recovered from the dividend cuts.

Options: I collected $72.96 in options premium this month. I also have $191.98 in premium received for two open put positions in GILD and TGT. See my options trading page for more details. I don’t account for this premium until I have closed out of the position.

Woow…that is a great feeling, isn’t it?! Congratulations.
I remember the feeling when I hit above the 1k mark in January 2017.

Look forward to your next milestone. Have a nice weekend

  2. Congrats on crossing $1k. I’m still waiting for one of these months. Maybe if things go according to plan, I’ll make this much in December.

Congrats on hitting another record for dividend income. Four digits is always nice to see. Looks like a few names are doing most of the lifting. Wouldn’t mind my JNJ to more work in my portfolio. Keep up the good work and that impressive year over year gain!

Thanks, DivHut! March is one of my most diverse months in terms of the percentage of companies that pay. I’ll have to continue to distribute the cash around to keep things as even as possible. Still, doesn’t hurt to get the most dividends from the traditional dividend powerhouses.

  4. Very nice increase over last year. And congrats on breaking over the 1000 per month income. Very nice.

Thanks, Jay! It was hard at first to be excited about a few dividend dollars here and there. But, you’re right, they really do start to add up quickly! Increases will even be better from here. Same percent increases lead to even higher dollar amounts.

    $1000, Wow!

Congratulations, that is a huge milestone to pass! I’m trying to reach that lofty goal myself but it’s going to be some frugal living this year 🙂

Thanks, Divi Cents. It is a nice milestone, but I’d still rather get to the point of having the steady month-over-month dividends like you have! There are a bunch of ways to get there. I’ve chosen stocks that concentrate the income mostly at the same time.

  9. Wow that’s pretty awesome. Way to go o hitting the milestone. Soon you’ll be at $2k per month!

  10. Congrats on a record month! $1k in one month is very impressive as well as that huge dividend increase for BBL. Let’s hope it stays up that high as long as its maintainable. Hope to see more YoY% growth in the coming months.

  11. Congrats on the record 2 Investing. That’s what I am freaking talking about. Love, love, love the fact you were able to crack four digits of steady dividend income here. Amazing stuff is happening!

Bert, I know! Dividends are some pretty amazing stuff. It is so fun to own tiny bits of some great companies. I tend to seek out products made by the companies I own. I bet a lot of people here do that!

  12. Dan says:

Great job! $1000 is awesome. I fell just short of $1k this month. Thanks for sharing! I am drastically behind my goal and will need a MASSIVE last 3 quarters to reach it! 😀

    • scott says:

Thanks, Dan. Once you get that debt paid off you’ll be able to invest some more and meet that goal. Plus, there’s a lot of companies still out there that will be raising their dividend. All those factors will help you make it!

  13. Hi, just discovered your blog through Dividend Diplomat’s March overview! Fantastic progress, the 1k a month threshold must feel really good.

I will follow your blog from now on, keep it up!

Hi Tall Investing! I just discovered your blog too. I love seeing the different investment ideas of other dividend growth investors. Keep up the good work!

  14. Scott,

Awesome getting to over $1000. I crossed the three digit threshold for the first time this year so I have a ways to go. I’ve been looking for a way to represent the tracking of my dividend income, which I’ve decided to begin anew this month, and this post gave me some ideas.

    Thanks and congrats again.

      Dividend Portfolio,

Thanks! It wasn’t that long ago when I hit my first $100 month. The really cool feeling was once I finally got every month over $100 so that on average I would be earning at least that much from then on each and every month. You’ll get there soon!

      Scott

  15. Congrats on a very strong month! I’ve not yet hit the “1k – milestone” but my April dividend income will come pretty near to that mark.
You’ve a well diversified portfolio with solid companies, providing you with robust organic dividend growth. Keep up your great work!
    Cheers

Thanks, Financial Shaper! March has always been one of my best. Just need to invest some more in the “slacker” months to even things out. The dividend growth has been fun to see. As the portfolio grows, each dividend increase provides ever larger increases in the absolute dollar amounts. Thanks for the comment!
